Tropical Storm Threatens Floods in Wake of Wildfires - California

20,000 residents of the Golden State could be evacuated as gusts of up to 50kph threaten to worsen the raging 27,000-acre inferno in Fairview - and heavy rains are predicted to bring mudslides and debris flows.

Tropical Storm Kay - due to hit on Friday - will bring relief from scorching temperatures which have brought energy conservation advisories across the region - but authorities are still concerned - “We could go from a fire suppression event into significant rain, water rescues, mudslides, debris flows. We have challenging days ahead,” Deputy Chief Jeff Veik of Cal Fire’s Riverside Unit said at a community meeting.
