From Australasia to the Caribbean & Beyond... is Mourning Turning to Debate about 🇬🇧 Rule?

Australia has offered its condolences to the UK royals, but republicans in the realm are looking to revive a push to end its association with the monarchy.

King Charles has become Australia's head of state - although the position is almost entirely ceremonial. A referendum on becoming a republic in 1999 lost with 55% opposed. But a lot has changed in over two decades:

"Now Australia must move forward," said Greens Party leader Adam Bandt. "We need a Treaty with First Nations people, and we need to become a Republic."

Bandt has been called out for not showing respect, but sentiment is spreading to the corners of the 'British' empire.

Jamaica has signalled its intent to follow Barbados and ditch royal rule, and there are others seeking apologies for slavery. African nations too want reparations. Last year, a poll in Canada found a majority was in favour of waving the British away.
