EU divided over capping Russian gas price

On Friday, an emergency meeting was held in Brussels, convened by EU energy ministers to discuss options for regulating energy costs at the bloc level.

European Union energy ministers were reportedly split over whether to cap Russian gas prices.

However, ministers indicated broad backing for moves to prevent power providers from being crushed by a liquidity crunch and several said it was urgent to decouple the price of gas from other cheaper energy sources.

Other details of the meeting, as well as the details of which EU ministers opposed the price cap on Russian oil, are still unknown.
