Italy Drought: WWII bomb reveals itself as river dries up

The device was found by fishermen on the banks of the country’s longest river, Po. A whole village in Lombardy was evacuated before the bomb was destroyed in a controlled explosion.

Extreme heat and a lack of rain has Italy facing severe drought. The Po's current has weakened so much that salt water has crept into the river, which is having a devastating impact on crops.

A state of emergency was declared last month in areas surrounding the river
